The Abbey Falls is a combination of many small steams that come together and fall into a pool of water. The sight of water falling from a cliff with a height of 70 feet, surrounded by lush greenery is indeed a sight that will behold everyone’s attraction. This water flows and merge into The Dakshin Ganga (River Kaveri).

waterfall, you can only drive to its entrance and after that you have to cover
the remaining distance on foot.
Nestled near Madikeri, Abbey Falls stands surrounded
between the coffee and spice plantations. The sound of water gushing down mixed
with aromas filling the air greet you before you got a view of Abbey Falls.
History of the Abbey Falls
Abbey Falls, which are also called Abbi Falls, was
initially named as Jessy Falls as when the Coorg’s first British Chaplin
visited the place, fell in love with its unparalleled beauty. He then dedicated
and named the waterfall ‘Jessy Falls’ after the name of his daughter.
After the Independence of India, the waterfall and the area
surrounding with its rich flora and fauna came under the control of Government
of India. Later, the area of waterfall purchased by Mr. Neravanda B. Nanaiah
from the Government, and transformed it
into spice and coffee plantations.

Abbey Fall Timings and Entry Fees
One can visit Abbey Falls on any day of week as it remains
open for all seven days. The timing for visiting the waterfall is from 9 am to
5 Pm.
Things to remember while visiting Abbey Falls
If you are visiting Abbey Falls during the monsoon season,
do look-out for slippery steps, small insects and leeches.
The waterfall may tempt you to take a swim. But it is
advisable to avoid these types of activities as the water turn out to be risky
especially during the monsoon season.
